Are You A Believing Servant Of Allah swt

Are you a believing servant of Allah swt? Before you answer the question, let me explore the word ‘abudoo’

In 2:21 Allah swt says

‘O ye people! Adore your Guardian-Lord, who created you and those who came before you, that ye may have the chance to learn righteousness;’

The phrase ‘adore your Guardian Lord’ in Arabic should read as

‘ Ya ayyuha alnnasuoAAbudoo rabbakumu’

‘Aabudoo’ here translated as ‘adore’. To adore means to admire, to be crazy about, be mad for, be serious about, cherish, glorify, honour, idolize, revere, reverence, treasure, venerate. It means to worship. If you adore someone, that means you love that someone. This word is more or less similar to the word grateful. Read why do you have to be grateful to Allah swt.

Are you a believing servant or adorer of Allah swt? Before you answer that, I just need to clarify who will be in the category of a believing servant, adorer or worshipper- in the ‘eyes’ of Allah swt?

In 37:11 Allah swt says

For he was one of our believing servants (adorers or worshippers)

Who was this believing servant (adorer or worshipper) of Allah swt? Allah swt was referring to none other than Hazareth Ibrahim alaihis salaam.

According to history, Hazareth Ibrahim alaihis salaam did not have a child for a long time. After much prayer and supplication, Allah swt grant him a child.

37:100 My Lord, grant me from among the righteous

37:101 So We gave him good news of a compassionate child

That child was Hazereth Ismail alaihis salaam. So when he grew enough to work with him, Hazereth Ibrahim asked his son Hazereth Ismail the following as stated in verse 102 of chapter 37:

And when he grew enough to work with him, he said: My son, I am seeing in a dream that I am sacrificing you. What do you think? He said O my father, do what you are commanded to do. You will find me, God willing, patient.

Every child and all humankind must note this answer from our beloved Hazereth Ibrahim alaihis salaam. If for example, if you hear this from your own father would you reply like Hazereth Ismail alaihis salaam? I think you will run for your life. You will think that your father has gone mad!

As a father, do you just re-enact from a recurring dream? I have no words to describe the love of Hazereth Ibrahim alaihis salaam towards Allah swt. We cannot compete in this kind of love. We do not have this kind of love towards our Lord. Our love for Allah swt is very weak, evasive and perhaps non-existent.

In every festival of sacrifice or Eidul Adha we hear “Innahu min AAibadinaal mumineena” – believing servants, adorer or worshipper. Are you a believing servant of Allah swt?
